I don't wish to brag, but....

I TOLD YOU SO!!! HA HA HA! I knew that after Raditude, the only way they'd survive is with a more rock oriented record, and that's what we're getting. If "Heavy Mental" is anything like what we've been promised, our favorite band will finally have redeemed themselves for the last 2 1/2 records. Now, I know I'll take some shit for enjoying Make Believe, but I would take that album over Red and Rad any day, and now that they're heading in a sort of indie rock direction, I think we'll all be ok. Now all they need is Matt Sharp! ;)

Dude, i remember scott saying before raditude that it would be a much more rock oriented album. That doesn't mean shit. I also look forward to the release, but you should know by now that what weezer says is not what weezer does and you should have no idea of what to expect until some shitty quality bootlegs get released.

I getcha, I'm just saying that another shitty pop album would be a stupid release alongside Odds and Ends, Pink DLX, AND Alone III. It would be unwise to have such a big wave of old school, kick-ass, raw, and real Weezer, and then shit on it with another Red or Rad. Of course, that's only an opinion.

re: don't mean to brag

You guys have no appreciation for true music if you cannot see the musical genius behind The Red Album. Each and every track is a work of art.

"Troublemaker" is a great opener with plenty of guitar and good lyrics for a popular song and good single. Nice, catchy riff. Doesn't try to accomplish anything huge but makes for a nice, modest but fun song.
"The Greatest Man That Ever Lived" is an epic masterpiece, and arguably the most genius work Weezer has come up with in their career. It shows influences ranging from Green Day, The Beach Boys and Nirvana to Elvis, Queen and more-- even Beethoven. Epic work on variations, and my favorite Weezer song to date. Amazing live.
"Pork and Beans" is the perfect lead single with nods back to Weezer's roots, and the lyrics, though directed at Geffen at the time, also shows fans their stance-- they're making music for them and hope others enjoy it. Otherwise, they don't care what you have to say. I respect them for it. Either listen to it and love it or shut up about it.
"Heart Songs" is a great acoustic song loaded with allusions to Weezer's many influences such as Edie Rabbit, The Beatles, Devo, Bruce Springstein, Iron Maiden and Slayer and it has a good, soft sound to it yet is catchy. Live it's cool when they combine it with covers of those songs.
"Everybody Get Dangerous" has a really awesome heavy riff and fast lyrics. Extremely catchy, probably the biggest crowd-pleaser on the album. Surprised it wasn't a single, or ever played live. Definitely would have done well mainstream and yet maintains classic Weezer style.
"Dreamin'" is similar to the second track in that it has variations, but somewhat to a lesser extent. The lyrics are solid and fun, and this also would have worked well as a single. Also great to hear live.
"Thought I Knew" is a song taken from guitarist Brian Bell's project, The Relationship, but really works on a Weezer album. We've heard Brian on vocals before live on songs like "Why Bother?" and "El Scorcho", but it works on a Weezer album. This song is very relaxed, and could have incorporated in a guitar solo, but definitely a great work.
"Cold Dark World" is interesting in that along with "Thought I Knew" and "Automatic", each Weezer band member gets their turn at the mike. Scott Shriner has a great voice (he sings "Dope Nose" and "Photograph" live), but it doesn't carry through to the lyrics or instrumentals. Easily the most forgetable on the album.
"Automatic" rounds up drummer Pat Wilson on vocals which is rare. We've heard him perform "Photograph" and "Holiday" live as well as some others before but never on recording. He works remarkably well on this song, yet another worthy of being a single on the album. The robotic voice adds a cool new effect too.
"The Angel and the One" ends the album in a soft yet epic closer that almost rivals the great "Only in Dreams" off The Blue Album. Soft-spoken but so powerful and gets quite intense at the end. The electric organ-style synth really adds to it. Great way to cap off an amazing new album that is the most diverse of Weezer's career.

You can't argue that The Red Album is extremely diverse and there's something for everyone who appreciates good music on it. Definitely a 100% top-knotch album. I'll say that I enjoyed Make Believe quite a bit, although it can't compare to quality, polished work that is The Red Album. I think all the self-titled albums are sublime, and Weezer's best work (although all deserve a lot of respect, especially Pinkerton and Make Believe).

i do like red, its not as good as others but i see your points, i like how each band member sings and writes/ sings in this album. the acoustic sessions are also great!!

If it was never played live, how do you know it's the biggest crowd pleaser on the album?

Last time I checked, "crowd" was not necessarily synonymous with "live audience." It can just mean a group of people with something in common, i.e. Weezer fans looking for some rock.

Yeah man all you heard was "raw rock energy" and you expect they are going to sound great again. Rivers said more solos on Raditude. Funny because the only solo on raditude worth hearing is Trippin' Down the Freeway.

does your shitty internet connection also inhibit your ability to read and comprehend message board posts?

kid pointed out that what rivers says about upcoming albums is rarely equal to what is on said albums. thus, anything he, or anyone else in this band, including karl, says about upcoming albums should be taken with a huge fucking grain of salt, because it's almost always bullshit.
